Sculpted steel coffee table by designer and sculptor Paul Evans (1931-1987) for Directional. USA 1967. Signed ‘PE 67’.
Made of welded steel and polychrome, the table features artistic contrasting brazed brass decoration.
Paul Evans’ Brutalist-inspired sculpted metal furnishings distinguish him from others in the world of design. The sculptor is one of the most recognizable and versatile figures in the American Craft Movement of the post-war period, and arguably the most collectible American furniture designer of the late 20th Century.
The table is in very good condition, the glass top has been replaced at some point. This has a few very light surface marks.
