The 583 series was introduced in 1968 and was active nationwide as a day / night shared AC / DC limited express train for both 50 / 60Hz.
The KUHANE 581 has an equipment room with MG and CP installed between the driver’s cab and the passenger door, and is characterized by louvers on the side.
