English Fairground Carousel panel
We are proud to offer a wonderful example of an early 20th century English fairground panel. From a fairground carousel ride, with the hand painted graphic “The Popular Game”. A wonderful, aged patination and crackling effect that has taken place due to its years of use. The photos do not do this example justice as its colours are still vibrant and strong. A mixture of maroon, gold and green colours set this example off as a great decorative piece of authentic fairground wall art. The reverse section of this panel is still firmly in place and the numbers 8 would have allowed the showman to place this panel in line with other sections. Signed “Makers, Mechanical Novelty Co, Audenshaw Manchester.
Size in inches: H 40” x W 40” x D 1.5”
Origin: English
Period: 1920 -30
Material: Hardwood panel
Condition: Aged
This example is completely solid in structure and form if not a bit worn due to its age. Aged surface and loss of paint in sections. The paint has crackled across most of this artifact as shown in the photos provided. The surface wood has aged away to leave a wavey effect at the base and cracks as shown in the photos, the edges are worn, and the metal brackets show rust. Close up photos have been supplied to illustrate these points so please observe carefully and propose questions to us if needed.
