Chinese Ningxia Carpet 13.7×8.6 Circa 1870

This is a north central Chinese piece with a tan shrimp field centered by a round medallion with an outer poly-chrome cloud wreath,an inner paeony circle and a central tree paeony on a fretwork stand. Paeony arabesque corners with butterflies and seasonal fruits and flowers in the field. Main paeony border shows medallions in the corner. Rare size format and highly decorative field colour which is both easy on the eye and equally easy to decorate around. Dark blue elements contrast well with the field tone. Spot wear in the field and corroded ground in the outer tan colour border. Fairly good condition for the age. Plain outer border intact.

In sum,the field colour is exceptionally rare, warm and inviting. This carpet has been cleaned professionally.
