Veneered all over in burled aramith and contrasted with ebonized moldings and carved work the cabinet is architectural in form and consists of three doors. Two fully glazed with thick beveled edge glass panels the third partly glazed and partly closed that open to adjustable shelves. Done in the empire style the caryatid carvings are refined and yet simple. The stepped top is also designed to display further objects

What a piece! This is a wonderfully decorative double sided open bookcase that works well in and home library as well as an office setting. Its steeped in history, each end finial has the college coat of arms for Winchester College under which has their motto which reads “Manners Makyth Man” made famous most recently but the Kingsman films

On top of the bookcase there is a large inlaid bronze engraved plaque which reads “County Histories Purchased With Warden Semells Legary To The College 1903”

We have cleaned waxed and polished it, there will be some age and use related patina marks here and there, there is a timber shrinkage split on one end, the piece has been checked glued and clamped as needed and it is in ready to go order

The base plinth is detachable for ease of transport

The twin astragal glazed doors open to reveal an adjustable shelved interior, having reeded canted corners. Constructed using the finest figured mahogany with satinwood and boxwood line inlaid detail. The lower section having figured mahogany top, banded in satinwood above a secretaire drawer depicting a central classical urn within a floral swags, enclosing six Satinwood drawers, six pigeon holes and a gilt tooled leather inset writing surface. The twin panelled doors again constructed from figured mahogany with boxwood, satinwood inlaid panels depicting classical urns within a floral border. Also having reeded canted corners and enclosing an adjustable shelve interior, resting on solid mahogany bracket feet.
